Have Fun Flat Track Racing

Organized by Toshi “Cheetah” Osawa and a core group of japanese custom builders, the Have Fun Flat Track events are held at the Off-Road Village in Kawagoe, Saitama. These races have become a legendary fixture of the Japanese custom scene, typically taking place on the Monday immediately following the Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show.

The event’s primary philosophy is “Run What Ya Brung,” emphasizing accessibility and creativity over professional competition. While the grid often features high-end, award-winning custom bikes that were on the show floor just 24 hours prior—including vintage Harley-Davidson WRs and Indian Sidevalves—the heart of the series lies in the specialized Mini-Bike class. These racers often use small-displacement horizontal engines housed in custom-fabricated frames, proving that riders don’t need a massive budget to enjoy sliding in the dirt.

As the name implies, there are no aggressive rules or high-stakes trophies. Instead, the day is divided into free practice sessions and friendly races where modern 450s, vintage choppers, and custom “monkey” bikes all share the dirt oval. Cheetah and his crew have transformed Kawagoe into a cool destination for flat track enthusiasts, attracting international guest riders and fostering a unique subculture where the boundary between “show bike” and “race bike” is completely erased.
